“We are excited about the opportunities to expand our business in Asia, and we remain committed to delivering triple-A offerings for that region. At this time, we can confirm that we are closing 2K China,” A Take-Two spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz.

Take-Two closed the studio because the time it would take to complete the current projects of the studio, such as Borderlands Online, would prevent the company from turning a desirable profit.

The costs of the closure did not particularly harm the company’s other facilities; such as the office in Singapore, the NBA 2K Online team or the testing facility based in Chengdu. Take-Two made it clear that they are helping the 150 employees find new opportunities within their company.

NBA 2K Online will continue with their launch of Civilization Online in Korea. Gearbox has also confirmed that a new Borderlands game dedicated to the next gen consoles is in the process of being made.
