Each of them follows a different design philosophy – one undeniably Japanese, and the other almost comically Western. Still, both franchises have stood the test of time and given us fans hours of fun. Thanks to the power of modding, they can come together for an absurd and surreal gaming experience where the dangerous streets of Los Santos meet the whimsical people and creatures of the Pokémon universe. From themed apparel to playable Pokémon, this collection offers a lot of must-try Pokémon mods.
20. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Bomb with Pokémon GO
Check Out This Mod Most of you will remember the massive recall of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones after their batteries started spontaneously combusting worldwide. A genius mod creator decided to immortalize this malfunctioning gadget in GTA 5 through a mod that lets you use it in-game as a functional bomb. The current mod makes it much more fun by installing Pokémon GO on it, which should make people lower their guard more easily. Pokémon GO features a wide variety of safety warnings to keep its players from walking into traffic or restricted areas – but nothing about ensuring the phone is not rigged to blow.
19. Ash’s Hat (Player Skin)
Check Out This Mod One of the most classic pieces of Pokémon apparel is Ash’s cap from the original anime series. Wearing this will make you determined to become the best criminal there ever was. You’ll feel an irresistible urge to explore Los Santos, getting into “battles” with other “trainers” just because they looked at you funny. Assault Rifle used three-round burst! It’s super effective! Don’t forget to pick up the Pokéball while you’re at it.
18. Pikachu Hoodie
Check Out This Mod Nothing instills fear in your enemies like a complete disregard for cultural norms. Nobody expects someone wearing an adorable Pikachu hoodie to barge into their compound and start shooting up their goons. They’ll fear the insane man who had the gall to bring a Pikachu to a gunfight – as they should. Even the police officers will do a double-take when their partner calls them on the radio to report a Pikachu hoodie-clad madman is trying to steal a plane from the local airport. It should buy you time while they recover their composure and send back-up.
17. Pokémon Cropped Hoodies
Check Out This Mod Suppose you’re using mods to play as your female MP character instead of GTA 5’s three male protagonists. If so, you can’t miss out on these gorgeous cropped Pokémon hoodies. Los Santos is a hot place, and exposing your midriff should help you regulate your temperature – though other people might find you hotter with them. These crop top hoodies come in four varieties based on the three starters from Gen I – Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle – along with Snorlax. Before installing these beauties, make sure to download the original crop top sweater mod.
16. Pokémon Emolga Mask for MP Female
Check Out This Mod Wearing masks is a must when robbing a bank or another high-profile place that you know will be full of security cameras. Most people opt for balaclavas, Guy Fawkes masks, or even animal masks – but a true Pokémon fan would turn to this fantastic Emolga mask. I can’t even imagine how the bank attendants will feel when Emolga comes in with a Submachine Gun and tells them to put the money in the bag or lead them to the bank’s vault. Their psychologist will have their work cut out for them trying to solve that PTSD.
15. Pegassi Bati Pokémon GO Livery
Check Out This Mod Everyone knows the most effective way to play Pokémon GO is to drive around hitting up Pokéstops and hunting for critters. A fantastic way to do this in GTA 5 is on the Pokémon GO-themed Pegassi Bati introduced by this mod. Driving this around town, you’ll feel the envious stare of geeks who have to wear themselves out actually walking to these places for Pokémon. The design is very appealing, to the point where I’d gladly ride it in real life.
14. Mitsubishi Lancer Eeveelution Liveries
Check Out This Mod Few Pokémon enjoy the massive popularity of Eevee and the Eeveelutions. That’s why the perfect car for a Pokémon fan is a Mitsubishi Lancer Eeveelution! Bad puns aside, these Eeveelution-themed Mitsubishi Lancer liveries are some of the coolest geeky paint jobs you can get in GTA 5. The above link will take you to the download page for the Fairy-type Sylveon Mitsubishi Lancer – my favorite by far. But you can click here for Water-type Vaporeon and here for Electric-type Jolteon.
13. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X FQ-400 Pokémon Livery
Check Out This Mod If you love anime-themed automobile liveries, but Eeveelutions are not your thing, consider this alternative Pokémon-themed livery for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. This design features a bunch of Gen I critters for the old-school fans. There’s Charmeleon, Blastoise, Onyx, Snorlax – and of course, Pikachu – among many others. You know it’s for OG fans only when you realize it features Pikachu’s classic chubby design instead of the fluffy but somewhat athletic modern version. Long live the zappy chonky boi!
12. Pokémon Props
Check Out This Mod Do you want to build a fantastic Pokémon-themed amusement park? Maybe take some amazing screenshots in the city with your favorite Pokémon? Then look no further than these high-quality Pokémon props! This mod lets you spawn detailed Pokémon statues at will with help from the Add-On Props system and the Menyoo trainer. It features 44 notorious critters from Gens I-VIII, including fan favorites like Charizard, Gengar, Lugia, Rayquaza, Arceus, Alolan Exeggutor, and, best of all, Gigantamax Pikachu.
11. Pokémon GO T-Shirt Pack + Cap
Check Out This Mod Back in the day, you had to dress like a bad-ass from the ‘hood to be accepted into Los Santos’ different crime families and syndicates. Nowadays, things are a lot more inclusive. As long as you know your way around a Glock, you can dress however you want – and for some of us, that means getting decked out in Pokémon merch. This mod adds a collection of awesome Pokémon-themed T-shirts to your wardrobe, ranging from a stylish Pokéball pattern to a print of the iconic Wobbuffet. Gotta wear ’em all!
10. Pokémon GO Team T-Shirts + Extras
Check Out This Mod Back when Pokémon GO came out, people really identified with their in-game team. Since then, most people have moved on – but anyone still playing must be even more committed to their color-coded group. This T-Shirt collection features stylish apparel for Team Mystic, Team Valor, and Team Instinct so you can show your colors while driving around from Pokéstop to Pokéstop on your Pegassi Bati. You’ll also find some extra designs to show your love for Pokémon, including one featuring Pikachu Libre from Pokken Tournament – one of the cutest Pikachu ever imagined.
9. Boeing 767 All Nippon Airways Pokémon Livery
Check Out This Mod My favorite piece of Pokémon advertisement is the “Pokémon Jet” series of Pokémon-themed planes flown by All Nippon Airways from 1998 to 2016. Pokémon’s popularity soared sky-high after the release of the first few games back in 1996 – and thanks to All Nippon Airways, that’s a pretty literal statement. This mod introduces a Pokémon-themed Boeing 767 for you to fly in GTA 5. There’s no better way to express your love for the series as a wanted criminal than stealing an entire commercial airplane. Note: The link above will take you to the download page for the liveries. For the actual plane, click here.
8. Pokémon Textures for Story Characters
Check Out This Mod Back in the day, mods weren’t “cool.” They weren’t supposed to make games better. In fact, you could argue they made the game worse in an enjoyable way. They were silly, absurd, and ridiculous – like these Pokémon Textures for all story-relevant GTA 5 characters. Changing the characters in GTA 5 to look like Pokémon Trainers is one thing, but taking Michael De Santa’s clothes off and applying Pikachu body paint is just genius. This mod does something similar to 35 different characters. Don’t expect any high-quality textures or polished models in this mod. It’s just pure, unadulterated comedy – the surreal kind of comedy you can only achieve through modding.
7. Pokémon RP Server
Check Out This Mod If you’re looking for a more legit way to turn GTA 5 into a proper Pokémon game, the Pokémon RP Server is the way to go – as long as you paid attention to your high-school Spanish class. Created by long-time Pokémon and GTA fan Sergio Lopez, this modded FiveM server allows you to pick a starter and go out into the world of Los Santos to have real Pokémon battles against other trainers from around the world. Believe me, it’s almost too good to be true. Regrettably, it has a steep barrier of entry: the server is aimed at a Spanish-speaking audience. Still, as long as you know some basics, you should be able to jump in and have a blast.
6. Pokémon GO GTA Edition
Check Out This Mod Those who prefer a fully single-player experience could have a lot of fun with the Pokémon GO GTA Edition mod. This exciting add-on merges the world of GTA with Pokémon GO’s augmented reality. You’ll be able to hit Pokéstops all around the map, catch critters with Pokéballs, and turn them into your in-game followers through a simple in-game menu. One thing where this mod could definitely use some improvement is the physical appearance of the Pokémon, which is basic at best and terrifying at its worst. Still, it’s definitely worth a try for Pokémon fans.
5. Female Trainer from Pokémon GO
Check Out This Mod If you’re playing Pokémon GO in Los Santos, you might as well look the part. I always loved the design of the female trainer from Pokémon GO, which is why I chose to play as her rather than as the man I am in real life. It’s sporty and modern – alluding to Pokémon GO’s goal of making people leave their homes for a less sedentary gaming experience – but it still looks like it belongs in the Pokémon universe. This athleisure style is an excellent fit for Los Santos.
4. Playable Pokémon Pack
Check Out This Mod Instead of catching Pokémon, you might want to play as your favorite critters – and you can, thanks to the Playable Pokémon Pack. This varied set of iconic Pokémon includes 32 different pocket monsters from across the first eight generations, beautifully animated for use in GTA 5. These include Charizard, Haunter, Mewtwo, Meowth, and Cinderace. Even the quadrupedal Pokémon like Persian and Arcanine move and act just like they would in a Pokémon game, since it’s very similar to how you’d move after consuming a peyote plant and turning into an animal in the regular game.
3. Pokémon Skins: Red & Misty
Check Out This Mod Some of you couldn’t care less about “fitting in”. If you find yourself in that camp, check out these Red & Misty skins for GTA5. The models are taken from Pokémon Let’s Go, so the proportions are nothing like a regular human being in GTA 5. That said, they are detailed and very appealing – so if you’ll be focusing on roleplaying a Pokémon trainer, you can’t do better than this. These characters also include alternative outfits for added variety. Red and Misty both have the regular Let’s Go outfit and classic outfit based on their original appearance in the classic games. Red also gets an alternative costume based on anime protagonist Ash.
2. Pokémon: Team Rocket
Check Out This Mod It’s nice to be able to play as our favorite Pokémon heroes, but the villains will make the most of a city like Los Santos. So prepare for trouble – and make it double! Well, triple, if you count Meowth. This mod adds the Pokémon Let’s Go versions of the classic dastardly trio from the anime. These guys are total legends in Pokémon’s criminal underworld – not only for their long criminal history but how they went from anime-exclusive characters to franchise icons. Looks like Team Rocket is blasting off again!
1. Playable Pokémon Gen I Starters (Skins)
Check Out This Mod Most people would think of Pikachu if asked who the most iconic Pokémon is – but true OG fans will think of the original trio of starters offered by Professor Oak in Pokémon Red & Blue. This mod will let you play as these absolute legends in GTA 5. Bulbasaur, being quadrupedal, plays pretty much like any other four-legged animal. While that’s fun, it’s pretty lackluster compared to Charmander and Squirtle running around with Assault Rifles. Or instead of playing as them, you can replace other characters with these models. Do it with some followers and you can have a team of starters fighting on your behalf. It’s just like a real Pokémon game! Well, kind of.
