Possible RPC:S-5:AEC-0 Fix #1 (what worked for me):

Directly download the latest Google Play APK file. AndroidPolice keeps an updated page with it.Go into Settings > Manage Apps > All > Google Play StoreUninstall updates. This will revert the Play Store to the base version that shipped with your device from the manufacturer (or ROM).Install the new Google Play Store from the APK file.Run Google Play from the app drawer as usual and your apps should now download.

Possible Fix #2:

Go into Settings > Accounts > GoogleRemove your Google account. You may need to tap it and then press the menu key for this option to appear. Now go into Settings > Manage Apps > AllThere are three apps we need to clear. Those are: Download Manager, Google Play Store, and Google Service Framework. In each apps info page tap Clear Data. Now go back to Settings > Accounts > GoogleAdd in your Google account.Restart your device.Launch the Play Store and hopefully everything works.
